This position provides an opportunity for the successful candidate to develop an affordable, fully automated and intelligent drone prototype for precision agriculture. The drone will be used to help farmers use resources efficiently, reduce farm costs and improve profitability. The project is funded by Higher Education Innovation Fund (HEIF) and the candidate will conduct the work mainly based in Department of Mechanical Engineering, UCL. The project is also in a close collaboration with ALTAR Ltd, a tech-for-good start-up specialised in robotics enabled precision agriculture, and the candidate will be collaborating with ALTAR to unlock the agriculture robots technologies in both national and international markets.
The successful candidate will perform high quality research in the field of robotics, with a specific focus on the following areas: computer vision systems, intelligent system design, autonomous navigation, machine learning and automation. They will actively engage in the collaborative projects that support this position by executing relevant work packages and liaise with project partners to help deliver the project milestones in a timely manner. They will work closely and engage in the mentorship of MEng, MSc and PhD students.
The post is funded until the 31st December 2021 with the possibility of an extension.
We are looking for someone with a postgraduate qualification in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or related subject.
You will have experience using research techniques and methods and evidence of completed research. You will have proficiency in one or more applicable programming languages from MATLAB, Python or C++. You will be able to conduct literature reviews, synthesise, analyse and write up data. You will be reliable and able to manage project resources, as well as anticipate and tackle potential problems.
