Baker, Burriesci, Tiwari and Torii promoted

Congratulations to the four UCL Mechanical Engineering academics named in UCL’s Senior Academic, Research and Teaching fellow promotions 2017/18.

  • Dr Timothy Baker, an alumni of the department, the department’s Careers Tutor and Team Principal of UCL Racing, becomes a Professorial Teaching Fellow.
  • Dr Gaetano Burriesci, renowned for his work on the development and testing of prosthetic heart valves, who heads UCL’s Cardiovascular Engineering Laboratory, becomes Professor of Bioengineering.
  • Dr Manish Tiwari, is a nanoengineering specialist, whose spinout company TCR Materials, which is developing durable superhydrophobic coatings,  was recently lauded as ‘One to Watch’ by UCLB, Dr Tiwari becomes Professor of Nanoengineering.
  • Dr Ryo Torii,  whose research interests include the use of integrated computational biomechanics with a particular focus on cardiovascular applications, becomes an Associate Professor.

In congratulating his promoted colleagues , UCL Mechanical Engineering Head of Department Professor Yiannis Ventikos said, “I am extremely proud and delighted for this much deserved recognition for our colleagues. Well done!”

All promotions become effective 1st October 2018.
