Research outline

Pressurised gyration to produce hybrid nanoparticle loaded polymer fibres for anti-microbial applications.

A novel approach, pressurised gyration spinning to achieve a high production rate of hybrid nanoparticle embedded polymer fibres in the micro to nano scale range either using polymer solutions or melts. The silver nanoparticles and copper oxide nanoparticles were successfully incorporated into polymer fibres and proved to be of higher antibacterial efficacy than virgin polymer fibres, acting against Gram-negative bacteria, E. coli. These works were done in collaboration with the UCL Division of Medicine, UCL School of Pharmacy and Department of Life Sciences at University of Westminster.
